Temple Alumnae Chapter History
Chartered October 1, 1945
The Temple Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on October 1, 1945. There were fifteen young women who petitioned the Grand Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority to become an established chapter. The young ladies represented professional areas in the teaching field, nursing, and music. They joined the Beta Rho Sigma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in Waco, Texas with an understanding that the Chapters would become two separate chapters as soon as their membership increased. After several months of working with Beta Rho Sigma, the Temple Sorors formed their own chapter which was originally named Gamma Alpha Sigma. In 1953, the Chapter was renamed Temple Alumnae Chapter.
